Some South African celebrities have blood on their hands. For this list, we are taking a look at famous individuals who have been accused of killing someone either deliberately or accidentally.

Judith Sephuma

Jazz singer Judith Sephuma ran over a 79-year-old woman in Soweto in 2013. According to the SNL24 website, the woman was crossing the road on her way to the clinic when the accident happened. SNL24 further reported that after the accident, Judith Sephuma took the woman to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital herself where the woman died two hours later. The case originally one of reckless or negligent driving was turned into a culpable homicide case after the woman died. There was no further update on the case, so I’m assuming she got a suspended sentence or paid a fine.

Jub Jub

Jub Jub and his friends were sentenced to 25 years in prison after killing four children and injuring two more during a drag race on March 8, 2010. In 2014 their jail term was reduced from 25 years to 10 years with two years suspended, making it eight years in jail. He served half of that and was out on January 5 2017 after saving four years one month and one day of his sentence.

Manaka Ranaka

Manaka Ranaka was on her way to enjoy a weekend away in Durban when she hit an 18-year-old girl who was crossing the N3 on foot in 2015. According to an interview with Sunday Sun, Ranaka went to the child’s house to apologize to her family. “I apologized to the family and I was forgiven there is no animosity in that family those are human beings and they understand it was an accident I keep seeing Millicent and it is hard in my life right now. I’m not in a good space but I hope God will give them strength”, she said at the time.

Pitch Black Afro

Pitch Black Afro was arrested after being found guilty of killing his wife Catherine at a bed and breakfast in 2018. He was initially charged with murder which was later changed to culpable homicide. He was sentenced to 10 years of which five were suspended. According to News24, Pitch Black Afro has now been released after serving 3 years of his sentence.

Donald Sebolai

In March 2016. Jozi FM DJ, Donald Sebolai was sentenced to 20 years behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend Dolly. According to News24, Dolly was found in a pool of blood in June 2014. She had suffered a single-step wound to the pelvic area. Police searched for Sebolai for over a week. The murder weapon and some of her bloodied clothes we found in the car.

Greg Pettigrew

50-year-old TV and theater performer Greg Pettigrew reportedly shot and killed his 29-year-old boyfriend at his Kempton Park home on Thursday, April 13 this year before trying to end his own life. The case is still ongoing.

Oscar Pistorius

On Valentine’s Day in 2013, Oscar Pistorius killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp claiming that he thought she was an intruder. Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide and was sentenced to six years in prison after a lengthy trial in 2016. On November 24, 2017, Pistorius’s sentence was increased to 13 years, and five months after the state filed an appeal.

Tokollo Tshabalala

Botswana police accused TKZee member, Tokollo Tshabalala of speeding after they tried to stop him for ignoring a road sign in March 2001. They say they gave chase and that’s when Tshabalala tried to overtake a car and then he crashed it into an oncoming car, killing the driver. Tshabalala was charged with culpable homicide as a result of this and Botswana authorities demanded that he be extradited from South Africa. He was later cleared of all charges.
