She became famous in 2004 when she replaced Lindiwe Chibi on SABC’s drama series Muvhango. In the backdrop of her newfound fame, she joined the SABC1 hit drama series Mzansi in 2006.
In 2007, she joined After 9 before appearing on SABC 1’s Turn It Out. Over the years, she established herself as a brand and spread her wings to music and radio.
Apart from her colourful career that spans years, she has also established herself as a businesswoman in her own right. In 2018, she hogged headlines when she revealed that she had launched her gin brand ‘I Am Khanyi – Millennial Shimmer Gin.
Despite her newfound fame, she has had her fair share of drama. Over the years, her controversial relationships have often thrust her into the top trends. She once hogged headlines with her relationship with Mandla Mthembu when she was 19.
Despite having a 30-year gap, the two tied the knot. In the wake of Mthembu’s financial woes, Mbau reportedly called it quits.
