Earlier this month, the 80-year-old father of the slain model died in his sleep. His death came just one month after the couple celebrated what would have been their daughter’s 40th birthday.
A decade ago, Reeva was shot and killed by her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius, after he allegedly mistook her for an intruder in his Pretoria home. He is currently seeking parole amid his murder sentence.

June’s birthday was announced in a Facebook post by the Reeva Steenkamp’s gender-based violence foundation on Tuesday, 26 September.
It read: “Today is June’s Birthday. We wish you a Happy Birthday, June, even though you don’t want to celebrate at all.”
According to the foundation, June wanted to commemorate her late husband, Barry, on her birthday. This, after he was laid to rest over the weekend in a private ceremony attended by his closest family and friends.
The post continued: “We honoured his request to be afforded the privacy in death which he was denied and craved so much the past ten years”

Meanwhile, Oscar Pistorius is continuing his quest for an early release after his parole bid was denied in March 2023
Pistorius was sentenced to 13 years and five months for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp on 14 February 2013. He has served half of his sentence, which, under South African law, makes him eligible for parole.
After being denied parole, Pistorius has taken his parole bid to the country’s highest court: the Constitutional Court.
