Foreign human trafficking kingpin finally arrested in his hideout in Gauteng

Two men were arrested on Thursday on charges of human trafficking. The suspects, a 25-year-old Malawian national and an Ethiopian national, are accused of illegally transporting 26 Ethiopian men into South Africa and then holding them against their will in a property in Benoni, Gauteng. According to the Hawks, the Malawian national was responsible for guarding and feeding the victims. The Ethiopian national, who is the owner of the property, is believed to have orchestrated the trafficking operation.

The arrests came after police received a tip-off about suspicious activity at the property. Officers who responded to the scene found the 26 men hiding in the property. The men told police that they had been promised jobs in South Africa, but they were instead forced to work for little or no pay.

The two suspects are due to appear in court on Friday. The case has highlighted the growing problem of human trafficking in South Africa. Human trafficking is a serious crime that involves the exploitation of vulnerable people for profit. It is important for law enforcement agencies to work together to combat this crime and protect its victims.

The victims were all young men who were seeking a better life in South Africa. They had come from rural areas in Ethiopia and were promised jobs in construction and other industries. They were trafficked through a network of smugglers who promised them safe passage into South Africa. However, once they arrived in the country, they were forced to work in dangerous and exploitative conditions.

The suspects are alleged to have used violence and intimidation to keep the victims under control. They were threatened with being sent back to Ethiopia if they tried to escape. The police are still investigating the case and are trying to identify other victims. They are also working with other law enforcement agencies in South Africa and Ethiopia to combat human trafficking.
