Presidential Tribunal: LP Has Come Too Far to Lose Hope at This Stage – Kehinde Edun

With Nigerians eagerly anticipating the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), the Labour Party (LP) has expressed its optimism regarding the outcome. Kehinde Edun, the National Legal Adviser of the Labour Party, conveyed this sentiment, as reported by THE PUNCH.

PEPT is scheduled to deliver its judgments this month. As per the constitution, the Tribunal is mandated to issue a judgment within 180 days from the filing of the petitions by aggrieved candidates, as stipulated in Section 285 (6) of the 1999 constitution.

Following the closure of their cases in June, with the presentation of 40 out of the 150 listed witnesses in their petitions challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Tinubu in the February 25th presidential election, the tribunal had reserved judgment. The petitioners included the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its standard-bearer, Atiku Abubakar, as well as the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi.

Regarding the Labour Party’s expectations, Kehinde Edun stated, “We are confident and hopeful about the outcome. The party has done everything it ought to do. That’s why we are optimistic. We believe strongly in the judiciary. It is the only way our country can remain strong. When you lose hope, then it is over. It means you are now calling for anarchy. LP has come too far to lose hope at this stage. We have to continue to hope and believe they do the right thing.”
